Perry County Library opening, December 3, 1961 [View 1] [graphic] / Ernie Deane [photographer]. 1961.

Negative taken for December 5, 1961, Arkansas Gazette article "Smallest County Has Newest Library," B1:3. The new Perry County Library in Perryville, Arkansas, which opened on December 3, 1961, is a combined effort of people and government. The citizens of Perry County voted a tax increase in 1960 to fund the library construction on land owned by the county. B.J. Suffridge of Perryville built the library on a lease-purchase agreement by which the county will eventually own the building. Winthrop Rockefeller of Winrock Farm, Conway County, Arkansas, supplied tables, chairs, shelving, and other equipment. Ruth (Mrs. Glen Pye), on the left, is the librarian.
